Where to Start

The Gate Has to Fit the Driveway, Not Just the House

Most people start with a picture of a gate they like. That is a fine place to begin, but the driveway usually decides more than the photo does — how much room there is to swing or slide, which way the ground slopes, where the power is, and how the gate will behave when a car is waiting in the street.

We come out and look at all of that first. Then we design a gate that suits both the property and the house, build it in our own shop, and install it along with the operator ourselves — which means the motor is matched to the real weight of your gate rather than a guess.

Space Saving

Sliding Driveway Gates

A sliding gate travels sideways along the fence line instead of swinging into the driveway. That makes it the practical answer on the two situations we see most in Ventura County: driveways that slope up from the street, and short driveways where a swing gate would hit a parked car.

  • Works on sloped and hillside driveways
  • No swing arc needed inside the property
  • Rolling and cantilever configurations
  • Can be built to match an existing fence line
  • Needs clear side room for the gate to travel into

Swing Driveway Gates

Single or double gates hinged at the posts. It is the traditional look most people picture, and it suits estate entrances and level driveways with room to open inward. Double gates split the weight and need less clearance per leaf than a single of the same width.

  • Single and double (bi-parting) configurations
  • Arched, scalloped, or straight top profiles
  • Matching pedestrian side gate available
  • Best on level driveways with clear swing room
  • Heavy-duty hinges and posts set for the real gate weight

Driveway Gate Styles We Build

Modern horizontal slat sliding driveway gate in black metal

Modern Horizontal Slat

Clean horizontal lines, no ornament. Slat spacing sets how much privacy you get — tighter for screening, wider for a lighter look. Pairs naturally with a matching slat fence.

Ornamental double swing driveway gate with arched scrollwork top, solid privacy panels and a matching pedestrian gate

Ornamental Wrought Iron

Hand-formed scrollwork, arched tops, and decorative clavos. Suits Spanish and Mediterranean architecture, which is much of Ventura County. Can be built with solid panels behind the ironwork for privacy.

Custom wood and metal driveway gate combining a steel frame with wood infill

Wood & Metal

A steel frame carries the structure while wood infill gives warmth and privacy. You get the longevity of a metal gate without the fully industrial look.

Arched ornamental driveway gate combining horizontal slats with scrollwork detailing

Mixed & Custom

Most of what we build is a combination — horizontal slats with a scrolled arch, or iron with a wood band. If you have a photo of something you like, we can usually build a version that fits your opening.

Making It Automatic

Gate Operators & Access Control

A driveway gate is only as good as the motor that moves it. We size the operator to the actual weight, width, and travel of the gate we have built, install it, run the electrical, and set up how you get in.

  • Operators for both slide and swing, sized to the gate rather than to a catalog average
  • Keypads at the driveway for family and trusted access
  • Remotes for vehicles
  • Smartphone control so you can let someone in without being home
  • Intercom and video entry where you want to see who is at the gate
  • Safety devices — photo eyes and reversing sensors so the gate stops for a car, a person, or a pet

Battery backup is worth asking us about if you are on a hillside or anywhere that loses power in a storm — it is the difference between a gate you can open during an outage and one you cannot.

Already Have a Gate

Driveway Gate & Opener Repair

We repair gates we did not build. Common jobs:

Gate Won't Open

Operator failures, dead capacitors, damaged control boards, and worn-out motors — diagnosed and either repaired or replaced.

Sagging or Dragging

Gates that have dropped out of square, failed hinges, worn rollers, and posts that have shifted. Usually fixable without replacing the gate.

Rust & Panel Damage

Rust repair, panel replacement, and refinishing — worth doing on a well-built older gate, and we will tell you honestly when it is not.

Access Control Upgrades

Adding a keypad, smartphone control, or intercom to a gate that currently only has a remote.

Common Questions

Driveway Gate FAQs

Should I get a sliding gate or a swing gate?

It usually comes down to your driveway rather than your taste. Swing gates need clear space to open into, and they struggle on a driveway that slopes upward from the street. Sliding gates need room to travel sideways along the fence line but do not care about slope, which makes them the practical choice on hillside properties and short driveways. We look at the site before recommending either.

How much does a custom driveway gate cost?

The main cost drivers are the width of the opening, single versus double, the infill design, and the motor and access-control system you choose. An ornamental gate with hand-formed scrollwork costs considerably more than a clean horizontal slat design of the same width. We provide a free on-site consultation and a written estimate before any work starts, and financing is available.

Do you install the gate motor and access control too?

Yes. We install the operator, run the electrical to it, and set up the access control — keypads, intercoms, remotes, and smartphone control. Having the same shop build the gate and set the motor matters, because the operator has to be matched to the actual weight and travel of the gate rather than a generic estimate.

Do you repair existing driveway gates and openers?

Yes. We repair gates we did not build — sagging or dragging gates, failed hinges and rollers, damaged panels, rust repair, and gate operators that have stopped working or need replacing. If a repair is not worth the money on an old gate, we will tell you that rather than sell you a repair twice.

How long does a custom driveway gate take?

Most driveway gate projects run several weeks from approved design through fabrication to installation, depending on the design, the motor lead time, and our current schedule. Because we fabricate in our own Ventura workshop instead of ordering gates in, we control most of that timeline ourselves.
